Hi, Folks.
Welcome to the only personal website I’ve ever created. It’s true! Although I have written code, uploaded sites, and maintained internet pages for friends, family, and interests that, well, interested me, I’d never had any compunction to put up a site of my own. Probably the closest I’ve come was a weblog I ran awhile back (under a pseudonym), but the last thing on my mind was Michael H Cecire.
Here, not so. Maybe it’s misplaced assumptions of self-worth or unmitigated vanity (hah), but I decided that for once, it’s time Michael Cecire had a presence on this so-called ‘inter-net.’ Truth be told, I feel that for the very first time, I’ve reached a level of education & experience to justify regular publication of my opinions. Can’t promise anything, but I’ll try to keep the content of this weblog limited to places where I can claim some real expertise.
A note about the header picture up top; I took the picture while meandering the streets of Old City Quebec, soaking in what I found to be an absolutely lovely place. The photograph above wasn’t the prettiest one I took, but perhaps the most compelling. When I looked up to that window, when I look at the photo, it was like a peek into evidence of a good life. The ‘good life’ being that Goldilocks lifestyle – a bottle of wine, a house plant, ceramic coffee cups for freshly pressed coffee – it’s just right. Simple and elegant. Is that too much to ask?
It’s not the individual accoutrements that make it right, but what each piece represents. Imagine you’re an archaeologist looking at the remains of this cup, the wine bottle, and evidence of decorative vegetation, what would it represent? How would you piece together that life? One might deduce: Stable income (good enough for Old Quebec, apparently), enjoys wine (but not a snob – the bottle’s by a window and not in a cellar), likes to enjoy their coffee (who drinks maxwell house in such cups?); And further extrapolate: a sociable individual, upper middle class, maybe a small family, content with life.
So how can I reach such contentment? More importantly, how can the public servant optimize his role to pursue the Goldilocks life for the general population? So, I will broadly address the nexus of public policy and culture – their interplay, implications, etc – through this weblog. I’ll also showcase some of my other work (the stuff safe for public consumption), for those of you who are interested (like someone who wants to pay me a large salary).
More soon.

The problem with the Goldilocks lifestyle is that it involves breaking and entering and eating the porridge of innocent bears.
