I’m on my way to New York City (THE City, as it turns out), and I decided to be a little unconventional this time and take a new busline, called BoltBus. I saw the advertisement, well, on the side of one of their buses on the highway with their slogan “Bolt for a Buck.”
Doing anything for cheap – especially 1 dollar! – is an irresistible temptation for me, so for my weekend trip to the City, I decided to go ahead and book myself a round trip ticket. Sure enough, I paid $2 (plus a $0.50 ‘transaction fee.’) online and printed out my materials from my computer.
And here I am, RIGHT NOW, sitting on their bus on my way to the City, and using their free wireless internet on board. Is this not awesome? My laptop is plugged into a jack on the back of the seat, and I’m happily blogging away as I pass the imperious Philadelphia skyline. Bus is clean, staff is friendly, and it has wireless!
Unfortunately for most of you dirtbags, Bolt only operates between DC, Philly, NYC, and Boston; great news for me, but not so much for the 3/4 of the US population not in that area. And, as it turns out, not ALL their fares will be $1, but it looks like it should still be cheap. I think Bolt, which is a subsidiary of Greyhound, is trying to compete head-to-head with these Chinatown buses (which I usually take) that have been cleaning their clocks the last few years. They’re off to a good start!
I mean, honestly, how do you beat free wireless? Oh, capitalism, how I love thee.
Ok. I saw this bus too. I checked out the website and joined. I can’t find any of the dollar fares though!! I’m in Philly. I checked 30th St. to Cherry Hill and it was 10 bucks. I checked 30th to NYC, it was btw. 7 and 10 bucks.
That’s all well and good. Not bad at all actually. But… Could someone point me to the dollar fares?
Thanks!
I’m guessing you have to book way in advance, I looked at tickets way in advance and there were 1$ tickets on various days.
The free wireless really changes everything though.
